Sanitation alerts
Privacy policy
Last updated 31 August 2026
Sanitation alerts is a free service run by the Washington Square West Civic Association, a nonprofit neighborhood association in Philadelphia. Here's what we collect, what we do with it, and what we'll never do with it.
We don't sell, rent, or share your mobile number or email address with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Your text opt-in and consent records are never shared with anyone for any purpose other than delivering the alerts you asked for.
What we collect
- Your email address. Required. It's how we send alerts and how we confirm you actually signed up.
- Your mobile number. Optional, and only if you ask for text alerts.
- Your collection day. Wednesday or Thursday, so we send you the right schedule.
- When you signed up and confirmed. Carriers require us to keep proof that you asked for texts.
- Your membership status. We check your email against WSWCA membership records, because text alerts are a member benefit.
We don't collect your name, your street address, or payment information. There are no advertising trackers or third-party analytics on this site.
How we use it
One thing only: telling you when a holiday moves your trash or recycling day. No newsletters, no fundraising, no event invitations, no marketing. WSWCA's general neighborhood email is a separate signup and we don't move addresses between the two.
How often we message you
About a dozen times a year — roughly 11 or 12 messages. We only write when the schedule actually shifts. Most weeks you hear nothing, and that silence is the point: no message means your collection day is normal.
Message and data rates
Message and data rates may apply. We don't charge anything for this service, but your carrier may charge you to receive texts depending on your plan.
Who else touches your information
A few vendors help us run the service. Each gets only what it needs, and none of them may use your information for their own marketing.
- Netlify hosts the site and stores the subscriber list.
- Resend delivers the email alerts.
- Twilio delivers the text alerts.
- Join It holds WSWCA's membership records, which we check for eligibility.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, such as a valid subpoena or court order.
Leaving
Reply STOP to any text to stop texts. Use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email to stop emails. Either takes effect immediately, and you don't owe us a reason.
How long we keep it
As long as you're subscribed. When you leave, we delete your contact information but keep a minimal record of the opt-out itself — carriers require that, so we don't accidentally message you again.
Children
This service is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that affects how we handle your information, we'll post the new version here and update the date at the top.
